“The company has reviewed the damage from the substance (which goes into the device) and we will reach conclusions in a few days (regarding the launch),” DJ Koh, CEO of Samsung Electronics, as reported by The Korea Herald. Samsung pulled back the Galaxy Fold unit that they gave to journalists and technology bloggers to review before launch. Unfortunately, journalists and bloggers found the smartphone’s folding screen was problematic in just a day after it was used. Some users find the smartphone screen blinking, even totally dead when used.
The damage was allegedly caused by material entering the screen because the user, who did not know, removed the Galaxy Fold screen protector. After the case surfaced, Samsung immediately investigated the case. Based on their findings, the screen was damaged due to material entering due to the protective layer being removed. Samsung also found dust in open areas at the top and bottom of the device’s hinges. Samsung made a number of improvements, including strengthening the resistance of open areas on the hinges and reducing the thin gap between the protective screen and the bezel. Samsung finally postponed the launch of Galaxy Fold in the US, which was originally scheduled for April 26, 2019. DJ Koh did not say exactly when they would launch the Galaxy Fold, however, when asked whether this month, he said that “we will not be late”.
